23 December

At last an update!  The first batch are from Jim Davidson and consist of a 1996 reunion held in the Crown and Greyhound in Dulwich Village, the new Dickens bench in Brockwell Park (Reunions/Tree Planting Section), the Tulse Hill Under 13 football team from 1966 (Sports Section)  and School Camp contingent from 1966 set in the glorious Lake District (Away Days Section)

Jim is keen to track down a former Faraday House-Master by the name of John Perrett. He attended Reg Goff's funeral and according to Percy Sheppard (Turner House Master) had built an amazing archive about Tulse Hill.  Reg's family knew me and wanted to pass his papers on to me but I deferred to John and he has , I hope, all of that still intact. Reg Goff was there right from the start in 1956 till the closing party in 1990 and his collection included form registers and the like.  If John is passing this way please. please, contact me at info@tulsehillschool.co.uk and I will put you in touch with Jim.

13 December 2008

My sincere apologies for falling behind with updating the website, this has been due to ill-health of both myself and my wife.  I have quite a few additions, including some great photo's from Jim Davidson of the 1966 reunion and more information of the tree planting at Brockwell Park. More photo's from Ron Franklin (if you cannot wait until I do the update you can see these at this link: http://www.flickr.com/gp/28198768@N02/71cw88

I also received  a wealth of material from Dr. Jan McKenley who did her PhD on THS.  I have started going through this material, but it will take some time to complete.

Also received a photo of teachers from Martin Smith, and an email from the daughter of ex-teacher Raymond Rivers who is still going strong at the age of 93!  Lastly, A "then and now" photo of ex-pupil Glenn McLuskie with his mate Dave Watkins.

I have a couple of weeks holiday over the Xmas period so I will hopefully get the site updated then.

11 August 2008

I have received some great info from Brian Evans, Deputy Head 1971-1973, and then Head 1973-1981. Brian has sent some very interesting items, including various newspaper clippings, photographs, the school syllabus for 1977 which was THS 21st anniversary; this has some great photographs from the 50's to the 70's.  A fantastic booklet on the THS 1st XV Rugby Tour to the USA in 1979, a Comprehensive Education booklet that includes a great photo of Mohammed Ali's visit to the school in 1974. I am at present scanning all of these items to include on the website, the problem is that there is such a lot of information I do not know in which categories to put it all!!, therefore I have started a new section called
Brian Evans Contribution and will place it all under that heading on the "Photo's" page.   I will put the info up in stages as I scan it.

12 July

Some great photo's from the 70's  from Ron Franklin who was a science teacher at Tulse Hill from 1970 to 1980 and Head of Science from 1976.  Some are identified, many are not, so get the magnifying glass out and let me know!.  See Ron's email and a link to the originals on the Message Board.

I have put some in the "Away Days"  section (at The Croft), those of the Teachers in the "Teachers" section, and  the rest in the "School Activities" Section

18 April 2008

I have received a great batch of photo's from John Bates.  He went to Tulse Hill School between 1958 and 1963 and was in Turner House. He has been sorting through albums belonging to Peter Chapman so a majority of these are ones that he has taken.  I have put most in the "Sports" section, and 2 in the "Away Days" Section, namely the ATC Ten Tors walk c1960, and the School Camp in Meigle Scotland1962.

John informs me that the films that Peter took have been passed onto Jimmy Davidson at Brockwell Art Services to be transferred to video, so hopefully we will have some more photos.   Thanks for passing these on John, and apologies as they should have been up on the website last weekend!.

25 March 2008

Having just returned from the USA visiting my son, I received an Email from Paul Smith informing me that some sicko had put some porn photos/links on the Message Board.  These have been deleted.  I would ask anyone who uses the Message Board to follow Paul's example and let me know if they see anything inappropriate.  **PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS ON THE MESSAGE BOARD AS THEY WILL MOST LIKELY CONTAIN A VIRUS**.

If anyone does need to put a link on the message board, please send it to me first with a brief explanation of it's contents.

The only new addition since Jan 2008 is a photo of the Tulse Hill staff cricket side approx 1985 received from ex-teacher Richard Moore who taught at THS 1975 to 1986.  I'm hoping Richard will send some more photo's in the near future. This photo is in the "Sports" section.

If anyone else has any memorabilia please send it to me at info@tulsehillschool.co.uk

I have been informed that, sadly, ex-teacher Mike Stevens has died.  I received this email  from Nicholas David Richards.

"Mike Stevens died 2 days ago. He died on his canal boat, which for Mike is probably where he would have preferred to be.  My common interest in Mike Stevens is canals and I live close to the site of the former Tulse Hill School.

Mike was a keen canals enthusiast and contributed a great deal to the thriving canals community.  Anyone interested will find more information in
uk.rec.waterways and Mike's site is at:
 http://www.mike-stevens.co.uk/

Our thoughts go out to Wendy, his wife.

3 October 2007

Dear Harry,

I cannot believe  that forty odd Old Tulse Hill Boys in a room full of food and wine cannot consume more than a morsel but I guess with all the jaw-jaw going on and only two HOURS to do it in there had to be some sacrifices. A great day finished off with a group photo on the steps of Brockwell Hall (taken by a former Head Girl from St.Martin's Girls school no less) in which we spanned colleagues not only from the first year of the schools existence to 1977, but one hallowed member of the Brixton School of Building who ended his apprenticeship in the first year of Tulse Hill. Will send a proper report with photo later but would appreciate it if you could put the attached file on the web-site as we will need to tell the Parks people which trees we want before the end of the year (for next June's Tree Ceremony) and I would like to keep the momentum going.  Click Here for more details
Many thanks for all your help,
Jim Davidson
.

23 September 2007

1.  I have received some wonderful memorabilia from Mrs Beryl Walters in Australia relating to
Mr Peter Imberger,
who taught at THS c1960-61. Sadly Peter passed away on 3rd July 2007.  Included is a "Masters" photo showing all teachers at the school in June 1960, but scanning a 36" x 8" photo and stitching it together is proving challenging!  Also included is an excellent copy of the THS Year Book for 1958 containing a wealth of facts, figures and photos. I am at present scanning this for inclusion in various sections of the website, I also hope to make the whole magazine available as a PDF download.  As well as distributing the memorabilia between the website categories, I have decided to set up a separate section containing all of the memorabilia under the "Teachers" section. My thanks to Mrs Walters for letting us have these great memories

2. Peter Beckwith has sent some great photo's and memories - thanks Peter

3. Message from Jimmy Davidson regarding the tree planting in Brockwell Park:

Dear All,
All looks set for Sunday, we have already had an offer to buy Brunel's tree and I am waiting for costings on the transfer of Peter Chapman's cine films to digital. I am arranging for my Natwest Business manager to set up a clubs and societies account to receive donations and get everything on a
proper footing and the photographs that Ron Kidd kindly dropped off at the shop have been enlarged to poster size and I will mount an exhibition in the Mural room. These photographs are the architects shots from 1956 and I've never seen the place look so good. There are a number of teachers who have been in touch so perhaps there are more films and photos waiting to come out of the woodwork.
After the do on Sunday I will show the photos in the shop during October and let Harry have copies for the web-site. By the way I am currently framing some of Tony Pacitti's pictures for an exhibition at All Saints Church in Rosendale Road and he will be spreading the word about Sunday to Messers Gestra, Udibair and Cranham. I am trying to arrange access to the Mural room a little earlier than 2pm so that I can set everything up-any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards
Jim Davidson.

PS - Thanks to Jimmy for confirming that Actor Tim Roth did attend THS - A biography will be put on the site shortly.
